NV4500 removal

My son's 98 4X4, lost its NV4500 5 speed over the weekend and I need to drop the transmission, but the problem is my service manual is 100 miles from me right now.
Does anyone have any instructions you could post or know of a website that has them. I would really appreciate any help you could provide.

Larry

i just installed one in my 1ton back in march/april. its pretty simple. just undo the drive shaft, loosen up the tranny mount, and if you want to fight it, you can remove the tranny hooked up to the transfer case. i removed the transfer case from the tranny. you also got to disconnect the front drive shaft as well. then remove the shifter from the inside of the cab. stuff some rags in the top of the tranny to keep from any dirt gettin inside.
then alll you have to do is crawl back under, and remove the 4 bolts that hold the tranny to the bellhousing. i used a floor jack for both tranny/transfer case removal and installation. thats pretty much it. its a real straightforward insall and removal.

Thanks for the info, a floor jack is all I have available, so it is good to know that it will work. I got the driveshafts off, so tomorrow I will tackle the transfer case and then the tranny itself. Again thanks.

floor jack is fine, when I did mine thats all I had, I removed the t-case on my and the bottom of the nv4500 is kinda flat and it sat right on the floor jack and I could roll it around. The cross member can be a pain but I used a BFH to take care of that, Just be carefull of the steel lines exspecially if there rusty

yeah, ill second that about the cross member lol. i used a 20lb sledge to get her busted out, and another thing, wash the underside of your truck. im a dumb*** and didnt, and must have worn 40lbs of old mud and dirt. it made for a fun experience lol

If ya got a bumper jack or porta power you can put pressure on the inside of the frame and it comes out sooo much easier.

I didnt pull the trans when putting the 5th gear nut back on. just the drive line and transfer case. support the trans when pulling the rear housing off. it was pretty easy.
