i can't find any used 4500s for a diesel anywhere so does anyone know what it takes to convert the input shaft on a gasser or does it need the whole mainshaft.

 

4 bolts, out comes the old input shaft and retainer, in go the new input shaft and retainer, and you're done. Be a good idea to put in new bearings (there is a thrust bearing and radial roller bearing), and make sure you put sealant on the retainer to the case.

 

thanks, i think i'm gonna have to go that route. are they as beefed as a diesel one or are they lighter duty?

 

Lighter duty. The CTD and V10 got the HD version of. Whats different, I can't say.

 

get an aftermarket one that is beefer then a stock one or you will regret it been their done that

 

Ya go with a 1.375". That's what I'm planning to do.
