Number of U-Joints???

In my 96 CTD 4x4 Automatic anyone know the number of u-joints in the driveline, both front and rear driveshafts? I count 6. Also, what's the recommended r&r for the whole driveline includding the cardon joints? What mileage can one expect from the driveline before problems start to occur?

Thanks for any help.

I had about 150,000 on my 2WD before I started having carrier bearing failure. When they replaced the carrier bearing I had them replace the U-joints too. I specified U-joints with zerks so I could grease them, so they'd last longer. U-joints with zerks might be weaker, but I don't race, or put extraordinary stress on my driveline.

I still have all the u-joints my trucks came with new 250k miles ago but have standard cabs with one piece drivelines.
Makes for a big difference in longevity.
The center carriers have a tendency to go out causing driveline vibration that takes out the other u-joints.

Bill, are your U-joints greaseable?

I also had my driveshafts balanced while at ATS, and that made a noticeable difference in vibration above 55 mph.

No, they're the stock joints.
