NP-205 in a 96 Ram

I checked Advance adapters and there is a kit to do this using a 205 from a Ford truck. Does anybody know which axel is the short axel on the CK pickups. I want to do this swap and run the twin stick shifter and am doing some reaserch on what it would take.

what do you mean by short axle? i'd love to have a twin stick 205 in my tow rig. that's what i run in my 4x4. the low gear in a 241 is a little lower. i think it's around 2.71 and a 205 is 2:1. what is the plan for the rear driveshaft? a 1410 single joint shaft in the front would be nice.

The shorter axle determins if the xfer case is a left drop or right drop. You cant flip one over. The only leftdrop 205 is from 1968-1979 ford trucks. Lomax has a kit that comes with a new case and 3:1 lowrang gears but they only make it right drop with a chevy bolt pattern. When I get a few things paid off I might look at putting in a twin stick atlas II.

i just call it driver or passenger drop. the fords are the only driver drop. just curious, why you want a tcase built for a crawler in your diesel? i can't remember the last time i needed to front dig my tow rig.

We have a couple hundred acers with 50% in woods and a creek crossing it. I would like to be able to traverse the entire property in my truck including crossing the creek. It is not a big or deep creek but it does have a few steep banks. I also have a 1954 M37 military dodge to use but I still would like to use the cummins. I am building a ranchhand style bumper and grill guard and headache rack to protect the stacks from tree limbs. I will probally just put an atlass II in it when I have the money.

that $ would be much better spent on a set of lockers. unless you've been breaking stock tcases, the 241 isn't half bad. decent low range for a stock case.
that said, post up pics if and when you do it.

203/205 doubler would be cheaper than an atlas wouldn't it? And then you have the same low range, with a mid range as well.

That is true. Our 78 w300 dump truck has a stock 203 in it.

the 205 is actually 1.96:1 low range. you don't have to front dig only with a twin stick 205. the rear low 2wd is handy for backing trailers up too. I use 4low for backing trailers often just because with the stick its just nicer. if I had 2low I'd use that but I don't so 4low it is.

When I did the NV-4500 swap I used an Eaton shift **** and replumbed the switches to control the CAD. Flip the 2 switches one was and it locks the other it unlocks. When I pull I use 2 low to back because of the con-fe.
