No second gear, need advice.

Well this morning I went to leave and I noticed very quickly I didn't have any second gear, it's just gone, it skips right from 1st to 3rd, if you try shifting to 2nd with the shifter from 3rd, 2nd just acts like neutral. I did some checking and from what everybody tells me the band must have broke or a line came off. If I am being told wrong fill me in, all I know is it was working fine yesterday no slipping shifting fine ect and today no second!
This brings me to my main question, I went to a local tranny shop to see what a rebuild costs since the truck has 100k on it and if the tranny has to come out I might as well get it fixed so I don't have to worry about it anymore and I have also been holding off on performance mods untill I get some tranny work done so I didn't tear it up prematurely. I asked the guy what it would cost if he built it up, he said, to take the tranny out and put it back in redo the valve body, 1000ft/lb TC, shift kit and all HD pards he said $2500. I told him the truck was stock and I towed 12k regularly and that there would be some mods done to the motor soon after the rebuild and he said he would still warrant it for 12k/1yr.
I have been looking at Bd, Suncoast, DTT and all the others' trannies for a while and $2500 for me to drop it off and come back a few days later and it be done seems like a pretty good price, I just want to know if there is anything else I should get done or make sure he does while I it's out that I don't know about. That price was not for billet input output shafts, but I don't think I should need them since I don't sled pull or drag race, right?

Thanks
Chris

**EDIT**
I feel kind of stupid now, just realized I posted this in the 12v Engine and Drivetrain forum instead of 24v, It's the same auto in both 12 and 24vs isn't it? any help or advice would still be appriciated, mods if you want to move this you can. sorry

mine did the same thing, I dropped the pan and the band strut had fell out and was laying in the pan. pulled the valve body and put the strut back in, torqued it properly and put it all back together. its been that way ever since.

Wow that would be nice if it was a cheap fix for now, but with my luck I won't get me hopes up.
