no lock up after it gets warm

1995 dodge desiel 47rh, after warm no lock up. After having transmission rebuilt at a certified rebuild business the symptoms are still exactly the same, possibly worse. The shop has had it since 3 weeks and they still haven't found the problem. thanks for any help you can give me, 3k later

Yeah that's odd, a guy I know has had his gasser 2500 at a transmission shop for going on 6months now. They will "fix it", he'll go to drive it and it will still be doing the same thing, take it back, they'll have it for a month or two, "fix it" again and then it'll be doing the same thing when he gets it back...

I'd say take it back and have them fix it (for free, obviously) correctly this time, and if they still don't get it right i'd tell them you are going to take it to another shop and that you'll be by with the bill when they fix it... Can't lend any help other than some kind words and sympathy, hopefully you get it all worked out and get the truck back up and running like a champ .

Certainly is odd...usually the other way 'round, no lockup until warm. I can only speculate the trans fluid thermostat may be haywire and reading too high a temp(preventing lockup after warm)?? Or could it be the trans actually IS too warm(have you checked under there after warmed up?), which will affect lockup(and o/d) as well. Perhaps even the brand/quality of fluid used(I had a rebuild shop use their generic el-cheapo-in-the-55gal drum fluid in my Trailduster and the trans had all KINDS of shifting problems until switching to Quaker fluid. Anyways, I wanted to point out that maybe you shouldn't quite do as mentioned above and just go get it fixed(again) yourself and then drop by with the bill; they may just laugh at you. If it comes down to it, you will probably need to take them to civil court(small claims may do) and get a judgment for court ordered/supervised repair or refund. No offense to JHew84's advice, just don't think you should take(expensive!) matters into your own hands before seeking legal(but sometimes slow) remedy. BTW, I am not a lawyer, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night , but I HAVE had/done a similar experience - and that's what I had to learn the hard way. Fortunately only a couple hundred dollars worth! Good luck, hope that helps! PS - Is the TC lockup the only real complaint, so that you can continue to drive it while doing the court thing?

Yeah, none taken . That would have been my advice before I had to deal with an unruly shop myself. Basically they would not let me take my car elsewhere and cover a penny of the bill, they required I have them do the work again. Now if they mess it up twice, that is grounds for obvious neglegence and would be a slam dunk civil court case if they wanted to act like thugs and not pay to have it fixed somewhere competent. They messed mine up twice but I didn't have the time or energy to deal with extracting the money from them, so I yelled a lot , told them to do it right this time, and it seemed to work out fine after that .

But if you are able to get them to foot the bill right off the bat, go for it , I guess i'm just not big enough haha.

p.s. i'm also not a lawyer, and cannot be held responsible for anything I may, or may not say haha...

As long as you're sure that they have the transmission right, you can test and see if it is the trans temp sender. Go to radio shack and buy a card of 1000 ohm resistors, pull the connection off the sensor, short across the connector with the two ends of one of the resistor and tape it up. This will make the trans temp fluid temp appear normal to the computer. On the 95 the sensor is on a tranny fluid line. This is what a bunch of 95 owners have done when installing a tranny fluid temp sender for an aftermarket gauge.

900$.later. Chrysler found a problem. Fixed it with a new computer. Works perfect. Next time the dealer will be the place to take it. Thanks for all your suggestions regarding this problem. JB

Wow...ANOTHER $900?? And this was spent above and beyond the original rebuild cost? Assuming the greatest amount was the cost of the new computer, right? I would wonder why the 'certified rebuilder' couldn't/didn't diagnose the problem being the computer in the first place. Not that it would have saved the cost of the new computer, but should have saved the cost of dealer labor to diagnose, you see? It just seems if a company is going to have the reputation as a certified rebuilder and that's their core business, they SHOULD have been able to accurately diagnose the problem with the old computer even BEFORE you agreed to have them do the work. Don't suppose it would do any good to approach them from that angle to see if they might cover the dealer labor cost under warranty? Can't hurt to question them about it in a polite, diplomatic way, huh? Just a thought...hope everything works out well for you in the future!! :-)
