newb trans fluid change

newb trans fluid change

hello all, today i plan to adjust the bands and on my tranny and change the fluid...i believe its a 47re ...its a 97 2500 2wd ...my question is to change the fluid out of the tc which line to i pull off the tranny people said cooler return line..but can anyone tell me which one this is..im guessing its on the drivers side? i really dont know and help would be appreciated..but i plan to take the pan off drain fluid from there take off filter...adjust bands...put new filter on and pan put 4 quarts in dipstick tube..then take off cooler return line and put in n running and have someone put fluid in dipstick tube while flushing old out of tc untili turns bright red.. then top off everything..is this correct?? mostly my prob is dont know which one is cooler return line...do i pull of off the tranny? etc...thanks for anyones help in advance..gilbert..also how much atf+4 should i buy if using this procedure...

Not sure about loosening a line to flush out the torque convertor though.

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
A 5/8 inch hose clamped to return line (rearmost) and directed to catch bucket will work. It will pump faster than you can fill. Don't let it pump air.
It may take 16-20 qts to get results you desire. The converter is a reservior and will mix the fluid as it pumps out.
Did you think about loosen the VB bolts? That will allow considerable oil to drain.
Just changing 4-6 qts of fluid will restore sufficent new additive to make fluid good. Exception would be contiminated oil. ATF+4 only and no snake oils please.
