New venture 2 speed

I have a 1997 2500 and there is a overdrive or 2speed on it. I belive the tag said new venture gear Syracruse, NY. I just bought the pickup and havnt been able to figure out how to engage it. it looks like there is some vacum lines running off of it to some kind of controler that has a cable comming out of it, the cable is mounted to the throttle shaft on the injection pump. is it suppose to shift up at a certin rpm? Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry, I haven't looked carefully enough under my truck to know if that is a stock overdrive or what...

Do you have an auto of a 5spd?

That would be your transfer case. I can see the front driveshaft and front diff in the picture. It is a 2-speed t-case. Should be an NV241. I'm guessing you have an auto if there is a cable from the throttle to the tranny area, although I'm no whiz with autos. The vacuum lines on the case are to control the Central Axle Disconnect, which engages/disengages a 2-piece axle shaft on the right side of the diff, allowing the front wheels to free wheel. You should have a shifter on the floor to shift the transfer case back and forth.

Yes that is a standard NP241 transfer case. It has 2 speed, LOW and HIGH gear.

It is not a 2 speed overdrive unit
