new guy

hey guys, Im new here and Ive been mainly into the off-road scene with my truck, and now im wanting to get into power upgrades for my truck. What are some of the upgrades I can do? I already have an aftermarket cam plate from Dyno-Sources not installed, what do yall think about them? They claim 80/200 on top of what I have (215/440). Im waiting to get 4.10s swapped in before I do any major Bombing so I dont tear up any drivetrain. I just had my tranny and t-case rebuilt so theyre good to go, and while I was at it I put in a LuK Pro-Gold Series clutch, so that should handle things as well. So what should be next, a 3k GSK, guages, etc...? I pulled the muffler and silencer ring off a while back and it sounds great, fixin to pull the resonator also. Any ideas and opinions would be great...thanks

Re:new guy

I would get the guages before anything. The the 3k gov kit would be the next big thing. after that a 16cm turbo housing might be in order.
DM01
P/S welcome to our site

Re:new guy

My advice....sell the plate. Just get some gauges and yank the stock one out. That 3k Gov spring kit will really open your top end up, as would some slight timing. With the muffler gone your stock pipe will do fine till about 350 HP or so.But like I said...save your money and sell the plate, yank the stock one, and put the money towards something more useful.

Will

Hey Chris,

I would throw that Luk pro gold away....they are junk. Our cummins put out to much torque. I would either look at a Southbend Clutch.....or Mitchells....They have dual or single disc clutches. Also van haisley out of Indiana also has some good clutches. Here are links to their websites respectively.

http://www.southbendclutch.com/
http://www.enterpriseengine.com/
http://www.jvdeng.ws/

Good luck!

Bill

Same name and all... ;D
I already figured you from there as well. And I know dieseDaze was, because I got the link to this site from one of his posts

As far as the rest goes, I know I need guages. Im thinking about the autometer Carbon Fiber Boost and Pyro on a dual mount full pillar setup. The carbon fiber ones are a little more expensive, but they look baddass...

Should I really sell the plate? Is there something wrong with it or would I just gain more power without it, b/c Im not looking to drag or anything I just want more clean hp/torque. They say you gain 80hp and 200 ft/lbs- but that seems a little high.

And the clutch, why do you say its junk? The guys at the tranny shop that rebuilt my transmission and ordered the clutch for me all own and drag 800hp+ pro-street muscle cars and love the brand. I know cars are different but they put out gobs of torque as well. And Ive heard many other good things about them as well from friends who run them. I know most guys I see here run Southbend Clutches. I know dodge uses LuK Repset clutches(a couple steps down from mine) in their trucks from the factory, so I figure why would they use crap. But have any of you had bad experiences with Luk Pro-Gold or have evidence that theyre bad? I dont mean to come of rude if thats what it sounds like, Im sincerely curious about this because I just got this sucker in there, I dont have the money for a new one, and it was a pain in the *** takin the tranny out and everything. Definitley not something I want to do again for a long time. But I need yalls real opinions, anyway...Ill stop rambling now
thanks alot
chris

Re:new guy

Chris,

Sorry...I didn't mean to insult your clutch. I just know people who have not had good luck with them. I know of three guys putting them in cummins.....all of them were stock or barely above stock.......and they all started slipping in 4th and 5th gear within 10,000 miles. They also don't tow anything heavy either.

Don't hold me to this, but I think the cltuches maybe rated to hold 500 ft/lbs of torque.....which IMHO....is a waste of money....hell a mild cam plate will get your over 500 ft/lbs.

I hope you have good luck with yours, and it lasts 100K miles! If you have any other questions, let me know.

Bill

Re:new guy

My thoughts,
Trade that plate for a #10 slide it all the way forward, yank out the AFC spring and slide the cover all the way forward, skip the 3K springs and go directly to the 4K spings and 60lb valve springs. Then you will see how good your Luk Pro-Gold is ;D ;D

BBD
