My truck wet the bed!! (Water Pump Question)
My truck wet the bed!! (Water Pump Question)
So my '95 blew a water pump I am guessing (it was dark but the collant appears to be coming from the very bottom/front of the motor).
It started to slowly spew out and then just dumped it all out... Boy did it make a heck of a smoke screen behind me.
ANYWAY -- How hard is replacing one? Cost (65.00 at Napa, must not say Cummins...
)? Can an idiot do it? Can I screw anything up? Did I screw anything else up when it went (I had it shut down before the temp gauge went over 190)?
THANKS!!!

At least I got a lift home from a nice truck...

Changing the water pump is easier than changing the air filter... Take the drive belt off , unbolt the old water pump ( two bolts) clean up the surface , bolt the new one in , put the belt on , and fill with antifreeze.
Done thanks!
It really was that easy - Needed a 1/2" socket, 3/8 drive ratchet, 16" piece of pipe for cheater bar, scotch brite pad and rag to clean up the mounting surface. That's it!
I did run in to a huge problem -- the 1st water pump I got from Napa BROKE!! The casting cracked as I was tightening it down. One of the ears broke off and it also started to split just past the outside of the impeller. I was using a short ratchet by hand and the bolts are tiny so I couldn't have over tourqued it -- just crappy casting and poor quality control is my guess. And it was there premium pump
. Luckily I live about 3 miles from the store and took it right back and got a different brand pump and $8 back.
