More Idle??

Sorry to ask the same questions as many others have asked. I searched the forum and could not find an answer. My idle is too low to run the A/C. Tried to adjust my idle. After I got the nut loose, the bolt turned less than a 1/4 turn then stopped. Is it possible that the low idle adjustment is backed out all the way to the lever stop. I have a haynes manual, that was the only thing that looked reasonable. If this is the problem, what options do I have for turning the idle up.

Thanks

How far did you back off the locknut? It might have bound up when you tried to adjust it. You were turning the stop bolt counter-clockwise right?

I was turning it counter-clockwise. The locknut was backed off At least 2 turns. I know because that was my first thought when it stopped.

Is there crud or rust on the bottom of the bolt? Did you try to hold the throttle open a bit when turning the bolt? The top of the bolt tends to get a groove worn in it from the throttle lever and makes adjusting the idle a little touchy.

I was not aware of the throttle lever rubbing on the bolt.
Thanks

You could just do away with the adjust screw altogether. After my s-shaped bar (throttle linkage bar?) broke I went to the hardware store and replaced it with a turnbuckle and put a "lock nut" on it. Now all i have to do is loosen the lock nut and twist the buckle, quick and easy.
