Maybe a dumb question
I came across a good deal on some synythetic Rotella 0/40 oil the other day and since its getting cold up here I would like to give it a try. Now I just changed the oil and filter in this truck last late October. What Im asking is would it work out ok if I just dropped the 15/40 oil thats in it now and put in the 0/40 synthetic without changing the filter too as it just has a few miles on it. I think I read somewhere that the two oils are compatible. Just trying to save a buck....

I doubt you would have any problems. But its always cheap insurance to spin a new filter on quick.. I have never heard of 0/w40 rotella.. are you talking about the 5w40 rotella in the blue jugs?? If so I have had great luck with this oil in several Cummins and even my Polaris sportsman ATV...

I just checked the oil bottle to make sure and it is t5 synthetic 0/40 rotella diesel oil. Probably will bite the bullet and put a new filter on too.

Interesting, the rotella 0w40 t5 is only available in Canada. I have only seen the 5w40 here in the USA.
Rotella is a good oil, just be sure not to use a cheap oil filter especially on a extended drain interval. I prefver fleeguard stratapore filters hands down..

I just returned the two bottles of t5 0/40. Googled rotella and found out it was just semi synthetic and actually only sold in Canada. the t6 is supposed to be full synthetic and is actually a few bucks cheaper. the o/40 was in a silver bottle and the 5/40 is blue container. Anyway it has turned cold here and Im not going to bother changing oil in the driveway and freeze my fingers off. Call me a puppy but Im getting too old to do that any more
