Manual 4wd lock in??? Help Please

Has anyone ever put a manual pull cable inside the cab to lock in their front axle? If so I need some help figuring out how that thing exactly works.

It is done on my truck, but was like that when I bought it. Now it is hard as heck to get into 4wd.

I took it apart from the axle and I'm not sure how this thing works, but did notice the little plastic piece was broke on the end of the piece that is C shaped.

Any info would be great.
Thanks
Cory

4wd would be nice to have right now because I could use it to pull around some trees, after having a hurricane in Ohio?

web site

Posi-lock is the company and they have the plastic pieces you that go on the end of the shift fork. Mine works best when rolling backwards doesn't work well if the truck is moving forward. The engage disengage procedure is on the posi-lock web site. www.4x4posi-loc.com

I have a posi-lock as well and it is quite hard to engage and disengage. The key to engaging it for me is to do it as I let out the clutch in 1st gear from a stop and then it is real easy. Disengaging, I leave the truck in 4wd and dump the clutch in doing 15mph or so and it unlocks if you get it just right. Kind of like shifting clutchless, you have to get the timing just right.

Mine works great. You may have to kind of roll on the throttle a bit then back off, just to take the slack out of the driveline. Same to get it back out.

Procedure is:
1. Shift the transfer case into 4x4.
2. Press the button on the cable and pull until you feel it lock in.

Taking it out is the reverse of the above.

I really don't like that the truck needs to be moving to engage. Got stuck in the snow last year playing in 2wd, then couldn't get it into 4wd. Won't do that again.

I don't have to have mine rolling, LOL, I never seem to have mine engaged prior to getting stuck.

It does take a bit of finesse, but if you engage the transfer case, then pull the handle as you VERY gently ease into the throttle, you can feel it engage the front end. Stop with the throttle, and lock the handle, you are good to go.

Be warned, if you get rammy with the throttle, you could strip the engage splines.

As patdaly said, you don't have to be moving. Just engage it right as you start to slip the clutch and it will go.

Mine engages and disengages very easy, make sure the cable is routed smoothly with no sharp bends and make sure those two plastic pieces on the end of the shift fork are there and not worn out. Also I use redline gear oil seems to work much better than with the stock oil.
