hey guys,
Give me the low down on a 95 extended cab, 4x4 with 160K. with an auto.
i am going to look at this tomorrow for the wife. is there any thing i need to pay close attention on. any advice will help. thanks.

As usual ask about the KDP, and how the tranny was serviced/if it was ever rebuilt. And take a close look at the front end, they are not the best, and the weight of the Cummins can take it toll.
its at a dealer and they bought it at an auction. so they dont any history on it. except it has new breaks and rotors. that they did.
i would pull the front case and check the KDP if i got it. and i can tell if the trannys going.
is there any little things, or problems with the 95 models. that i need, or should check.?

check the timing case, at the bottom, if it is cracked or leaking oil than the kdp has struck, you have to take the gear case off to check for sure, but this is an easy way to check without taking it off. check on the p7100 pump for alterations. there are six fuel lines coming out of the injectiong pump leading to the injectors in the head. if there are scratches on the screws that hold the delivery valves in, then it has performance delivery valves(not nesesarily a bad thing, but means it was pushing more power) at the back of the pump is the air fuel control housing. this is where the fuel shutoff solenoid is located. check and see if the breakoff screw is still there, it is the top left hand screw on the housing, if not, the pump has been tampered with, either the fuel plate was change, moved forward, or both. also check the plug on the top of the afc housing, if it has some paint scratches around it, he has messed with the spring, more fuel, more power. it is not nesesarily bad that these things were done to the truck, but it means the previous owner wanted more power, and you don't want more power unless you are going to use it, just my .02.

so heres my sheck list.
1). look it over before driving it.
a). check all fluids under the hood.
b). look for any leaks.
c). look the front timing case over for leaks ( kdp )
2). take it for a drive.
a). check all functions in the cab on working oder. (A/C,cruise, power windows, and so forth
3). see how the trans shifts. ( make sure its not slipping, and O/D works )
4). check the 4x4. make sure the tcase shifts good. and every thing works good.
5). pay close attention to the front end.
then see how much i can chew them down. but at less than $10k, the price seems pritty good.

nothing else really to worry about on the engine, the drivetrain could use some looking over. you probably already know this, look at the front and rear diff to make sure they've been opened up before. there should be gasket sealer sort of oozing out around the edges of the case if it has been changed on both, same with the transmission. oh yeah, check the oil for coolant, and the overflow bottle for oil, both indicators of blown head gasket, can't think of anything else, should bring you years of good times.

well i went and looked at this truck today. 95, 4x4, ext-cab long box with an auto tranny. 166K
it was a nice looking truck. just a couple small dents, but the paint was really nice.
well when i took it for a drive, IT WAS A DOG
AT AN IDLE IT SOUNdED GOOD, REAL GOOD.
BUT IT WAS REAL SLUGGISH ALL THE WAY TILL 70MPH THEN NOTHIN.
ITS AT A SMALL LOT, AND THE OWNER SAID HE HAD THE PUMP WENT THROUGH, TO LIFT PUMP, TO THE TANK. GEUSS THERE WAS SOME WATER IN THERE. ALSO HAD THE INJECTORS RE-CALED. BUT THIS GUY DOSNT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE CUMMINS, AND JUST RELIZED IT WAS BETTER THAN BEFORE.
BUT THERE IS NO TURBO SPOOL, NONE AT ALL. IT DOSENT SMOKE. BUT IT CRAWLS THROUGH THE GEARS.WHAT COULd BE THE PROBLEM?
I CHECKED FOR BOOST LEAKS. COULD NOT FIND ANY.
TURBO SEAMS TO HAVE GOOD AMOUT OS SUCK ON THE INLET.
EXHAUST HAS PRESURE coming out
IT ACTS LIKE ITS STARVED FOR AIR. ANY IDEAS.
O' YA, THE TRACK BAR IS SHOT, AND IT NEEDS UPPER, AND LOWER BALL-JOINTS ON BOLTH SIDE
I CAN GET THIS TRUCK FAIRLY CHEAP, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO GET AN IDEA ON WHATS RONG WITH THIS THING.
