Location of ABS Pump needed for a 97
Location of ABS Pump needed for a 97
Hello,
Just purchased this truck and am hoping to fix the ABS system as light comes on after about 30 secs after starting.
I searched and have read most of the poss problems like rear diff sensor and wiring and also about the controller and the pump. Where is the pump located for the ABS? I don't know what it looks like either.
Thank_you

For 2 wheel ABS the unit is under the master.
On 4 wheel it's on the driver's side wheel well.
There should be a sticker under the front of your hood that lists what options your truck has.
This could help> http://dodgeram.org/tech/repair/Brakes/beeding.htm

Hi Infidel,
Thanks any idea what the pump actually looks like? I have a 97 and the sticker says 2 wheel ABS. I was looking at the mcyl yesterday as I replaced the rear wheel cyl on the truck but have no idea what it actually looks like.
I did see a metal kinda tube shaped item with 4 wire plug on the bottom and a 1 wire plug on the side.?? Is that it?

2WABS is not a pump per se, it is a dual solenoid system that bleeds rear wheel fluid into a small accumulator. From the MC, it is a short line to the proportioning valve, then another short loop to the Accumulator/RWABS solenoids. From there the line goes back to the rear wheels. Look for a connector that has either 2 or 3 wires going to a weatherpack connector.
Hi patdaly,
Thanks for the info. I found what I think is the solenoids below the master, they mount to the inner fender, kinda have a spark plug connector on them. It was hanging there and the power to them was not connected. Prior owner was not diligent on fixing anything on the truck. I have been busy fixing numerous items since purchasing.
I tried powering it but no difference, light comes on after 30 secs. I will have to try to trace the wires that go to the rdiff/sensor fully.
I think the diff sensor is ok at 1.3K ohms.
I wonder if there is a way to test/see if the solenoids are actually working?

Thanks infidel I will try that but I am thinking it may be something more to diagnose. Prior owner was not very meticulous about the truck and was letting it slowly fall apart.
I will cross my fingers though
