thanks bill
2 questions:
why on my afc housing do i have 3 different fasteners out of 4? 2, 5/16 bolts, 1 flat head screw, and a round headed rivet looking thing with a hole in it. how do i tackle the rivet thing? i want to pull the housing back some and maybe turn the smoke down and thats my 2nd question: for less fuel do i tighten the smoke screw or loosen and how do i take off the cover to the screw? i guess that s 3. thanks

i meant 8mm! and i got the break off screw off by cutting a flat head slot with a metal saw blade. i tried to get my sawzal in there by but no luck and now i'm glad because i'm sure i would be replacing something else now too.
so i am blowing black smoke and want to decrease fuel. if i pull the afc housing toward the front of the truck that is decreasing fuel? or push it toward the back of the truck? i should have gotten all the answers first then took my truck apart but that would be no fun. thanks for your help.

Pushing the housing forward makes more low rpm smoke. Position of the housing is very sensitive, too far back and the truck becomes a real dog at low boost.
The star wheel serves the same function as the housing position but is more for fine tuning.

i'm sorry my problem is that i dont understand what push forward or pull back means. can you please explain the directions by back of the truck or front of the truck. i assume we are facing the back of the truck when we are working on the engine. i am confused because when i pulled back the afc or moved towards the front of the truck it smoked more. thanks.

Pushing forward means toward the front of the truck.

The star wheel sets the preload on the diaphragm. The smoke screw is the fine tune on afc foot location. The smoke screw will also affect the spring preload. More if going forward, less if going rearward.
