lift pump part number

Called the Case/IH dealer in town and got a part number for a 12V lift pump. He said he doesnt think it is the right pump for our engines because the 5.9's they use are defueled so much. He gave me a part number of J936317. Does anyone know if that is a good part number to use on our trucks? $105.00 out the door and I dont have to wait for anyone to mail it. Thanks.

Not sure of any part number, since all companies have thier own part numbers. I bought mine at the local NAPA store in Madisonville, Tx. about three months ago for $145.00, not a bad price with a lifetime warranty

How hard is the removal and replacement? I thought I read someplace to be carefull about that job or something would fall down in the oil pan. Just thought I would ask. Thanks for the info.

It's not hard at all, it's just so darn hard to get to from the topside, I did not try it from the bottom, it might be a little faster. It took me about an hour. The part that might drop in the oilpan is the pushrod that slides into it, but it usually has a pretty good suction on it so I would not worry to much. Before you put the new on bump the engine over until the cam lobe that the pushrod rides on is out of the way so the new lift pump will be easier to bolt up

Some folks like to use a stud with a nut instead of the stock bolts to pull the pump up to the block rather than fight the pump spring. Use one stud to pull it up, screw in the stock bolt on the other side, remove the stud and replace with the stock bolt.
Sorry I don't know the bolt size.

Well can I buy a pump from the Case/IH dealer in town? They stock them but said they didnt know if they would work for a street applicaition. I dont know if he knows what he is talking about so I thought I would ask if anyone had used one from a tractor dealer.
