less smoke

How does one know when there lift pump is going bad? the reason I ask I feel like the power is a litttle down lately, old painless just doesnt seem to smoke like she use to.

Take a look in Help, at my comments on this same subject today. I suspect you have the similar issue(s) as the guy with the starting problem. Power loss is generally dirty filters, or leaky hoses, or a weak overflow valve (or all three). A bad lift pump will generally manifest itself as a combination of "will not start" and hardly enough power to get out of the driveway. Most lift pump failures are first noticed when the road draft tube starts drooling excessively from internal fuel leakage into the engine oil, or the primer piston cover is dripping fuel on the garage floor, or fuel mileage goes in the can.
