I have learned more that I want to know after joining DTR, and I thank each and every person who responds to others problems and hassles. I never knew about the KDP until joining DTR. After reading all the information and horror stories, I ordered the TST kit and just now finished the installation. I feel a LOT better knowing that the darn thing is now history. It was quite easy, just general wrenching, probably spent more time cleaning the parts before assembly than real wrenching. I also installed new motor mounts, fan, radiator, and heavy straps to keep the engine from smacking into the fan. Ready to head South once again!

better knowing that that little bugger cannot come out or does not move everytime you bump that key. Congratulations!

All of the above info is good and correct, can't go wrong there. There are a few things to think about. Getting the large fan nut off can be a issue. From another thread, Infidel recomended that you take a punch and hammer (don't be shy, his words) the **** out of it, being sure to turn it to the DRIVERS side, as you face the front of the engine as it is left handed thread. I have the proper wrench (1 7/16"), and I still found it easier to hammer it. Put anti-seize compound on the threads when you put it back on. Getting the fan out was not hard. I took all the bolts out from the shroud, pushed it as far back as possible and lifted the fan out between the shroud and the radiator. It was no problem. Make a pattern or map of the front cover bolt pattern, as there are two different lengths of bolts. This will make it a lot easier to put them back in the correct location later. Removing the seal is easy, just be careful not to ding the cover. Really, other than that, it is not bad at all. A friend and a few beers will pass the time easier, but I did it alone, and was fine with it. I used the TST kit, but I am sure that any of them will work. Good luck.
Not really. It was poking out less than 1/16", and I had to smack it pretty hard a bunch of times to drive it flush. My guess is it was in there pretty good and probably was ok. I now KNOW that it is in there REALLY GOOD and will NEVER fall out.
When I did mine, to take the fan nut off, I used a vise-grip on the nut, leaned a short 2X4 on the vise-grip, and whacked the 2X4 with a hammer. Worked perfect. I couldn't bet a good bite with the punch and hammer method.
