automatic hubs

I was wondering exactly how the auto hubs work. I have a 98 12 valve 4x4 and i cannot get the front tires to pull in 4 wheel drive. the front driveshaft is spinning and pulling, but the tires are not. I figured i had d my frond r&p gears or spider gears or something, but pulled the diff cover and everything looks brand new. So in my mind either i have stripped both axle shafts at once, or my hubs aren't working right. Dont think it could be my axle shafts because i was just playin around in the snow a little, not much pressure against them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

on the passenger side of your front axle there is a CAD unit, stands for central axle disconnect. it has some vacuum lines going in it and when you put it in 4x4 a collar inside there is supposed to slide over engaging the axle to the other side. does your 4x4 light come on when you put it in 4wd? there is a sensor on the CAD unit that tells the light to come on when the collar slides over, so if it doesn't, you might need a new cad, or check your vacuum lines going to it.

has ir right on the money on how it works, seems to me like you are lacking vaccum somewhere, or your Vaccum actuator has quit on you. Common problems with these trucks. Lance has a real axle with lockin hubs in there that works for him, as for me, the Posilock kit worked,

My advice to u, If u use ur 4wd, posilock it and forget it U wont look back

Well I pulled the axle shaft out this weekend and it is snapped. Does anyone know where I can get an axle at? I have found alot of 30 and 35 spline shafts but cannot find a 32. 32 is correct for a 98 isn't it? Thanks.

Thanks for all the help. I searched all over the dana website and could not find a dealers list anywhere. What is confusing me is that one place tells me I have a 30 spline axle shaft while others says it is a 32. I have a 98 12 valve 4x4. Can anyone tell me for sure how many splines I have. Also where can I find one at. Please help me out as i need to get it fixed. Thanks.

I would just count the splines, but they got destroyed when it broke.
