Kill Switch using Clutch safety switch

Hi Folks,

Just bought a 97 RAM pickup (2500)...took me a year to find a nice one! :-)

Anyhow..now I'm concert somebody stealing the truck and did some research...Found a bunch of people claiming that a easy trick is to find the "Clutch safety switch" which they claim even on automatic trucks is under the dash...then wire a switch (hidden) into this.. Seems like a great idea except I can't find it...Could somebody help me if this information is correct and maybe if I post photos finding such cable?

Do you have an auto or a stick?

On mine two black wires go to the clutch safety switch. In the sticky it shows that for the autos the two black wires go to a bypass jumper that's taped to the wiring harness. It could be different for the 2nd gens.

I made a kill switch for my truck a while back. I just added some length to the starter solenoid wire, ran it back through a firewall grommet, and connected a switch I hid under the dash.

The clutch safety switch method sounds even better.

I want to be clear that this is on my '90 with no pcm and I don't know if there is a problem with it by doing this: I just wired a SPDT switch in line to ground from the FSS solenoid. It works beautifully...Mark

Yes, the automatics have the connector too, but instead of having a switch plugged into it, there's a jumper. Should be under the dash, just to the left of where the column goes through the firewall. I can't remember if it's taped to the harness or mounted to the big aluminum bracket under there. I think it's a yellow wire with red tracer.

Look for the green plug in with two wires running to it.

Ok, see this for wiring, one side will be red with a yellow tracer, the other will be dark blue with a yellow tracer. The plug should be attached to a block on the drivers side and is snapped to the back of the part. The connector is a royal pain to get to, so you will have to look closely to find it. I looked and I don' have a picture of precisely where it is located.

I will move this to the appropriate 2nd gen section as well.

Pataly! thanks!!!

So, from what that diagram looks like I could remove the bypass jumper and put a switch in? does that sound right?
