Have a question about KDP and cummins. Besides my 95 Ram CTD, I also have a truck with an 8.3L cummins. The engine appears to be set up the same as the 5.9. I am thinking that it might have the same KDP problem. Can anyone tell me if need to fix a KDP on that engine as well?? I'm thinking that I do!

 

I have not heard of any problems like the KDP on the C series like the 8.3 504.5 ci motor

The B series is smaller then the C series cummins and its a different motor both CI and HP wise

 

At work we have a 33,000 lb '96 Ford truck with an 8.3 Cummins. About a year ago, it dropped a dowel pin and split the bottom of the timing case open. Luckily the driver noticed that his oil pressure was fluctuating and got out to investigate so we didn't lose the motor. The dowel pin was found in the oil pan. This motivated my boss to buy me the KDP jig kit and do our smaller Ford with a 5.9 as well as his Dodge. Another division of the company has 2 trucks with the 8.3 and they have adopted a "wait and see" attitude despite multiple warnings. I'll let you know when the next one drops...
