Ya go figure.. its not an issue..

 

Cummins didn't issue a re-call as it is considered a nuisance not a safety issue. They have repaired many engines (many well past warranty) if they were covered by Cummins. Local shop has repaired many engines, mostly on school buses.

Dodge/Daimler-Chrysler/or whatever it is called these days denies any knowledge of KDP. Go figure that as Cummins did issue them a notice.
Because it was not a "safety issue" a re-call wasn't issued. Remember, Dodge assumed full warranty on the engines. An Engineer could order a re-call, but get over ruled by the lawyers & bean counters.

Very similar to the "53" block issue.

 

mine came out at 350,000 miles...shoulda fixed it before.

 

mine came out and was repaired with jb weld. it did not hold and ended up cracking further into the case because the weight of the pump. once i took the front cover off of the case i could put my hand on the pump and wiggle the entire thing . the pump is heavy and will fatigue the case. if a case is cracked it will need to get replaced! i tabbed my 97 in 3 hours with no prior experience. even made my own tab

 

did mine with the cam plate upgrade cheap insurance.

mine fell out around 200,000. I just jb welded it and been good for over 10,000 miles...

What is the proper situation, the pin is suppose to be flush, pushed in slightly ? Mine was sticking out about 1/8 inch. I tried to tap it in it did not move. I left it alone and covered it with the tab.

 

I guess you can add me to the list, at 138,900 miles, give or take......

 

As long as its tabbed you should be ok - Theres not much room in there to get a good swing at it is there?

 

I think the majority of protruding pins are nothing more than someone at Cummins not pounding them in all the way on assembly.
They probably would never fall out.

 

mine came out last fall on the 1/4 mile when turning 4k +. broke the timing case and that was it. when we pulled the case off, it was sitting right there. didnt break anything else though. i got lucky i think.

 

Mine fell out and broke the cover necessitating a replacement cover and related seals and gaskets, when this occurred I was new to the Cummins engines and did not know of the problem. I learned all about it online the night after it broke.

I had about 160,000 on the 94 when it occurred, I cranked the truck at the firehouse at the end of my shift and walked back out 5 minutes later to find oil everywhere under the front of the truck.

I was lucky and found someone that worked on diesel motors and he quoted a price of 1,200.00 to fix it and that was including the cost of the new cover.

After it was all said and done he stated that had he known how much work it was going to include the price would have been much more.The repair took a little longer than even he had anticipated and he even loaned me his Dodge Ram until I came to pick up my truck.

Information is key but Cummins should have admitted there was a dowel pin problem from the get go.

 

Does it happen to 24vs?! ive seen things that say it does and then some say that it only happens to the 12v. So im not sure wether it's an investment or a waste
