Hey, This Is Just What I Know But Haisley Says All You Have To Do Is Unbolt And Replace, But My Tranny Shop Put It To Me This Way, You Wouldnt Put Your Motor Back Togehter With The Wrong Preload, So Why Would You Dot That To Your Tranny, Especially Behind A Cummins. Just My Two Cents. Tim

How did your tranny shop adjust the preload on the bearings? Both of the trannies I've changed the input shaft on have had zero shims between the casing and the input shaft carrier.

Tate, That Is The Problem. The Shims Are On The Back Of The Tranny Under The Nut. To Much Preload And Lots Of Torque Will Crush The Berrings And Or Build Alot More Heat. Not Enough Preload (basically Slop Or Play) And You Could Blow The End Out Of The Box. Both Ways Are Costly To Fix. I Also Did My First One The Easy Way, Input Shaft Bearing Shot Craps And Ruined The Input Shaft. $1350 For The Tranny And Another $750 For A Second Input Shaft Changed My Mind. The Next One I Did, I Swapped Myself Also, THEN Had The Shop Pull The Back Off And Shim For 200 Dollars And A Piece Of Mind.
