injector leaking oil

I have a 98' 12 valve. There seems to be oil leaking where the injectors screw into the head. Are there o-rings to replace or what?

The injector bores are dry. The only "oil" that sometimes shows is from the valve covers or from a leaky fuel return line.

Does it smell like fuel or motor oil? I have always had trouble with the horseshoe shaped copper seals that connect the return line to the injectors. Seems like they need to be tighter than they should be. KD

How much torque will the bolts take? To break one off would be a pain, would'nt it?

Yes, you don't want to break one.. Its better to take the washer out, buff it with some light emery cloth and then clean the return line the same. Unless you have done injectors, they don't just start leaking.

I got new valve covers expecting to keep the leaks down, but alas I still get weepage from cylinder #5 area. I might try some light ATV sealant film on the lip of the cover gasket next valve set.

I had the same situation with mine. The fuel technician told me the injector nozzle muds can sometimes cause this and leak back, as there is only the threads and a dust seal. I had 3 of my injectors cleaned and calibrated, and it is dry now. Torque to 44ftlb
