increasing rpm by itself

I adjusted the idle speed tonight to get it back to where it should be. I only raised it roughly 50 rpm (sped is 780 rpm).

When I went to drive it, when you pushed the clutch in to shift gears, the engine would climb by itself. not real fast, but I turned the engine off @ 3000 rpm.

It did this 3 or 4 times before I could get back to the house.

I couldn't see anything that would be affecting the throttle linkage in any way. So I adjusted the rpm back down to 730 or so, and now it doesn't seem to be doing it again.

Any ideas as to what happened ?

How did you change the idle speed? Sounds almost like you messed with the wrong screw.

Did you just install the GSK? It sounds like you have the nuts too tight.

GSK has been installed for well over a year.

I adjusted the low speed idle screw about 1/2 turn.

Idle after I adjusted it was roughly 780-800 in neutral with a/c on. Spec is 780.

I agree with wannadiesel. Runaway idle is the typical symptom for too-tight gov spring nuts.
