I'll try it one more time

Hello, I didn't get a response the last time I posted, so I'll try again.. When I start in drive, the trans. chatters. Once it shifts into 2nd & 3rd it works fine. it will do it empty, but more noticeable when I got my 5th wheel RV trailer hooked on..

how would this be a t q prob when the convertor clutch is not engaged ?

maby just a trany mount / motor mount ?

or a bad sensor / speed / govenor ?

low line psi ?

if the vertor were bad it would not stop chattering?

help me understand ?

Will do some checking today.. I'm in south Texas right now, & problem here is there's a transmission shop every mile, & I'll have to try & find one that know what they're doing.. Are there bands in these trannys that could be or need to be adjusted..??

I'm doubting the TC issue too since it doesn't chatter in 3rd gear. John, keep us posted as to what you find out. I don't recall seeing this problem posted before.

I'll scout the phone book, & hit a couple shops, & see if I can get any opinions from a couple of shops..

Well I just got back from 2 shops, both different diagnosis.. First one said the chatter is caused by slipping clutches, & needs work done.. The second one said the trans oil doesn't smell at all, but the oil should be changed.. But the chatter is caused by 2 bad U-joints (rear).. I did notice a loud clank when shifting from Park or Drive to Reverse.. Funny I did take it to the Dodge dealer in Canada about the clunk, & they said that a certain amount of slop is quite normal.. Made an appointment for tomorrow morning to change the U-joints, & will let you know if that helps the problem, or eliminates it.. The second shop said that there may be some slippage in the tranny, but have to eliminate the U-joints first, & then see.

Could be U joint or the drive shaft support bearing. Also rear end. I would do more checking before opening wallet to a tranny shop.

Could be the bands need adjusting. One of the bands can be adjusted by yourself. The adjustment screw is on the outside of the tranny. I can't rember what the adjusment is supposed to be but it is in DTR just need to do a search for it.

No luck in searching yet.. does it tell you how much to adjust it? I was under the impression that only clutches were in the trans.

Adjusting bands...look here: http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/transmi...T_band_adj.htm

Steal (maybe borrow) a Texas license plate and put it on your truck so you dont get raked over the coals at a tranny shop.
