I may finally be getting a Cummins
Here I am 2 years later after joining this site and may have finally found a Cummins to buy.

Ok, so its not exactly the newest thing on the block. But we all know how long these trucks go, and this one only has 107K on the clock. i'm going tomorrow early morning to check it out and see if its worth it.
Pretending I'm a complete idiot so I don't look over anything and wind up with a lemon, what do you guys recommend I look at regarding parts and condition of certain items? Anything I should watch out for? Pointers and tips would be appreciated

Looks decent, but I think that is way over priced. Granted, low mileage, but it is a 1990. Also, it is from a dealer, so they are going to tell you what you want to hear.
I would recommend you do three things before making up your mind:
1 - thoroughly review the 1st gen forum and tech articles so you will be prepared to look it over and ask the right questions.
2 - Take it to a reputable diesel mechanic and get them to check it out.
3- If the truck is indeed in really good shape, tell the dealer you will give him $5,500 and not a penny more.
It is very easy to get caught up in the emotions of buying a new Cummins Ram and lose your objectivity. Be careful and let your instincts and common sense steer you not your emotions.
Good luck!

Sounds to me like I've got some howework to do. That 1st gen section is HUGE with the tec. articles. Most impressive
In regards to the diesel engine part, thats the LEAST part I'm concerned about. I've spent a long time wrenching on diesels. From the 4bt to a DT466, and my project motor, which is a 6.6L New Holland diesel. I'm good in that department. I was actually referring to the trans, T-case, and various others parts if there is stuff I should watch out for.
It all depends on how the dealer reacts and is willing to work with me tomorrow. I'll post pictures of everything I see and like/dislike.

keep your eyes open especially on craigslist and e-bay, found my 97' 3500 on craigslist in chicago for 7500. only gave 6000 for it . you gotta bicker with pople on the price . the less you give for the truck, the more money you have to play with it. myself i would offer 4500 and start there . just remember ifa dealer has it for 6500 they most likely only have about 3500 in it.leave your name and number and tell thewhenthey get tired of looking at the truck , call !! that usually works well , and deal with th manager. not a salesman, that works even better !
If it were me I would wait until you found a P pumped truck the power potential is simply not the same. That is unless you plan to keep it sock? I like those trucks myself and since this one is loaded it's a nice catch with the exception of No OD.

I have seen this truck on craigslist while i was just browsing around in my area. In my opinion i would let this one go. A Decent first gen should be like $4000. Just wait a little while. the right thing will show up, i got my 96 for $1500. it needed a radiator intercooler and some TLC. it is rust free and not bad looking either.
there was a 97 2500 ext cab 4x4 5 speed int he philidelphia CL for $2800. looked like a nice truck. didn't have mileage posted though.
