If the pump keeps running out of fluid it won’t be good for long

purchased a seal kit pitman arm from dealer today. but they didn't have other seal.

got Orielly to order a seal kit with both seals and gaskets. next up is resealing steering box.

reman steering box is $171 worst case. I may put transmission dye in first.

a dodge tech stated ATF-4 was ok to use in my power steering. much rather be using synthetic. sooo is ATF-4 ok to use in my 97 CTD?

ATF +4 is synthetic. Or a blend at least. You can also buy Valvoline synthetic at most parts stores that is ATF+4 compatible. Why take the whole gearbox apart? You can replace the pitman shaft seal pretty easy, without taking it off the truck!

If you end up replacing the steering gear why not ugrade to a PSC 3 turn steering gear. I can steer with one finger.

thanks... that's what I'm planning on doing first. which is replacing pitman arm seal without dropping gearbox.
