hx-35 differences?

I am wondering what the differences are between the stock turbos throughout years 94-02. Also is there a turbo difference between the auto and manual transmission models?

Most 94 models got the WH1C - very similar to a HX35 and performs the same, also a 12cm housing.....HX35's are a direct bolt-in.....main difference is the way the exhaust turbine housing and compressors are mated together

95-99 all got the 12cm HX35.

00-02 Autos got the smallish 9cm HY35.

00-02 manuals, including HO's got the 12cm HX35.

I have an 01 with the 9cm HY35, i see alot of the 12cm HX35 for sale, my question is would the 12cm HX35 my a direct bolt on replacement for the 9cm HY35 or would other things need to be changed aswell? Thanks

The HX35 is a direct bolt-in for the HY35.....If you can pick up a HX for next to nothing (shouldn't be a problem - I'm sure a lot of guys here are using them for door stops! ), then you should go for it.....The HX will boost efficiently to 35 psi easily and if you are mindful of your egt gauge, should allow for fueling around 350hp.

there are differences in different years of HX35's, but they are subtle, and I couldn't tell you which is the "best"

Hmm....don't know about any different compressor wheel sizes - I don't have any info on that....I can't imagine why there would be a distinction between 2500's and 3500's when it comes to the size of the compressor wheel...

CTD Nut ..... I'm a spaz

From what i could gather in a hurried searcof the HTTurbo page

The 99 and newer hx35's use a 54mm compressor
the 94-98 used a 56mm compressor
the pre 93's used a 56mm on most but not all. for some reason the 1 tons were different there.

Check out thier upgraded hx35 compressor wheel page they will give you some detail pertaining to stock compressor wheel sizes and upgrade options

I believe the later turbos are a 7 blade compressor wheel which should flow better even though it's smaller than the earlier 8 blade

.....seriously, though...good info....I never paid much attention to the HX35 stuff at HTT - I was always drooling over the other turbos there!
