How to replace Serpintine belt?
How to replace Serpintine belt?
When I start my truck when it is cold it squeeks till it warms up. It seems like it has to be the serpintine belt, and it is cracked pretty bad and needs replaced. How much is the belt, and do i need anyspecial tools to untighten/tighten it?

thanks

mike
Re:How to replace Serpintine belt?
The symptom you describe almost sounds like the notorious power steering fluid on the Dodges. The fix for that is changing to a synthetic P/S fluid.

Otherwise, it would also be a good idea to change the serpentine. For my 24v cost was $20 something at the local auto parts store. A breaker bar w/pipe extension for increased leverage to move the belt tensioner is what I used. Good luck.
Re:How to replace Serpintine belt?
It has an automatic tensioner on it. I just changed mine tonight because it was making all kinds of noise. By the way, belt dressing is the worst [censored] you can put on a belt. It is messy, and a rip off because if it works, it's only temporary.
You'll need a 3/8 breaker bar or ratchet, and probably a pipe to extend it for more leverage. I put a 1/2 to 3/8 adapter on my 1/2 ratchet with the long handle. I used the ratchet because I could adjust it for the swing. It will go almost right down to the fan shaft when you get the belt off any let the tensioner down. Pull it off the alternator first, and put it on the alternator last.
It will be a pain when you do it the first time, trust me. It's easier now that I've done it 3 times.

Chris
