how much will timing lower temps?

I was wondering how much bumping my timing (assuming mine is still at stock) up to around 16 degrees or so will (if any) help lower my egt's???? thanks for any replies, also how hard is this procedure, I know there are some special tools required, anybody know about how much $ for the tools???? thanks again, Dusty

Re:how much will timing lower temps?

Temps went down about 50* F on my truck. It also cleared up a whitish haze at idle when cold due to the 370's I put in. I'm timed at 16* ;D

To set my timing I used a dial indicator with a magnetic base that I already had and borrowed a delivery valve socket from a friend. You will also need a barring tool. I think you can get the Cummins engine timing kit from Snap-On for $230ish.
