truck has 145k and it seems to go through 2+- qts btween changes, i usually try to change oil at 3 to 4k miles, is this usual or ?. what are you guys seeing.

My 97 has 239,000 on it and it burns/drips probably 2 qts between changes. I change it every 5K.

At almost 300k on both my rigs oil level is down to full inbetween 10k changes.
I use 12 qts instead of 11 during a change so it uses about a quart.

Check for leaks and blowby under frame. If the undercarriage is well lubricated you may have a issue. A quart in 1000 miles is not unliveable from a overhaul standpoint. Real leaks should be resolved. Sometimes just changing brands of oil will effect a change in consumption. Mine goes through a couple qts in 5000 miles and then settles down and uses perhaps another 2 qts in 15000 miles. Use Rotella syn and change at 20000

I have 188K on mine & since I put new valve cover gaskets on I quit using 1/2qt pr 5000 mi.Your probably leaking?

mine uses about 1 1/2 qts between changes. Like said, I kind of overfill it at first and it settles down so you really don't have to add any.

Mine uses 2 qts every 4000 miles. It has around 207,000 miles.

Mine uses 1/2 quart to a quart in 4000 miles but it's also leaking from the vacuum pump and it has 446,000.

176,000 and best has not used a drop in 4,000 miles and 2,000 of those miles were towing 7,000# TT.

The '01 uses 2 quarts between changes. The previous post was referring to the '96.

Dunno how much she burns, but leaks? About 2 quarts between 7500 mile oil changes.

im useing/leaking around 1.5 qts every oil change which is around 4k but my tires throw off the mileage a tad so its closer to 4300 or so
