How do I remove the timing housing?

I got the cover off and the injection pump gear off. The four nuts are off the studs and the power steering pump gear is disconnected. I cant get the cam gear off! Is there a way to get it off or does the cam need to come out. The gasket was leaking at the bottom, no broken case from the pin, while idling. So it has to come off to fix the problem. Please help me out!
Thanks. Mike

The cam needs to come out. There's a retainer plate behind the cam, you can reach the bolts through the cam gear by turning the engine over. The tappets are mushroom shaped, so you need to pull all the valve gear, then jam notched dowels down into the tappets to pull the tappets off the cam. Rubber bands are used to hold each pair of dowels in position. There's a site with pretty good pictures of the job, I'll try to find it. Good luck, and don't drop any tappets or you'll get to pull the oil pan.

Most dealers repair a leaking case by loosening the bolts, prying the case away from the block, blasting with brake cleaner and then squeezing in silicone RTV. This saves several hours labor and seems to work.

I too have a leak at the bottom of the timing case. Its small though, not even enough to leave a drip on the ground usually! Question: Are all of the case bolts accessible except for the one behind the cam gear? Has anyone had any sucess with a thin/bent wrench backing that bolt off to loosen the case and then tightening it back up? I plan on doing this sometime soon and trying to get some of that grey silicone up there to see if it cures the leak. Any tips techniques or experiences would help! Thanks.
