Has anyone made their own barring tool using a starter gear?

Thanks, Tom

Yes, I've made a few of them by welding a cheap 3/4" socket to a starter motor gear.
Non plated impact sockets weld easier.

Where did you get the starter gear from, just any old starter?

There is no thread that I know of.
Two sentences is about all it takes.

I've used old stock starter gears but if I'm not mistaken many starters use the same size gear.

are the starter gear or socket the correct diameter to fit the hole in the bell housing.? Do you remove the starter gear clutch and then weld the socket in place?

Thanks ,

Tom

Use just the gear.
The 3/4" socket is the correct size to keep it from wobbling.
