Higher EGT's?!?!?!?!

so yesterday, i junked my old STOCK exhaust for a 4" shorty(pieced together by me) using the dynomax downpipe available through NAPA and a donaldson 41" muffler (4" in 4" out).

and to my surprise my EGT's are noticably higher........hmmmmmm. I was under the impression that when you upgrade to a bigger better flowing exhaust and lose the "non-essential exhaust components" EGT's dropped. Tooling around town now means about 600-700* vs. 400-500* prior. Going over the san diego bay bridge pegged, pushing 35psi, now yields 1100* where as before never got over 900. boost does build faster though and hits and holds 35psi

what could i have possibly done wrong? the muffler is oriented right, everything is fully welded and as far as i know none of the parts had blockages?

oh......sounds great though!!!

Yeah... I was referring more about the WOT and 35psi with a stock turbo was always allot more than 900* on any of my trucks. The normal cruising temps are very subjective since conditions and drivers are so different. On my truck 60psi and 1200* are pretty normal cruising numbers
I don't understand why I can never get 20mpg like allot of the guys can
