help a newbie

Hello. I am looking for a bit of advice. I located a 1995 Reg Cab lariat 4X4 2500. The truck has 145K and is an automatic. It is owned by the original purchaser, and has been maintained at the dealership. My main concern is the transmission, but the current owner has had it changed every 50K (fluid and filter) and he does not use o/d unless he is on the interstate. It has plowed his driveway (plow was removed and put on his 2002) and only towed a snowmobile trailer. Seems like a best possible case scenario, should I be concerned about transmission life?

Also, I think I can get the truck for about 8K, does that seem like a reasonable deal?

Anything else to look for?

Thank you in advance!!!

Re:help a newbie

I just purchased a similar truck mine had 142,000 on it and I gave 7500.00 I am very happy with it If the auto goes south I got a good enough deal to make up for the cost of the tranny, I say go for it it must be pretty good to make it to 145,000 miles. Matt

Check the tracking bar and front suspension in general. But especially the tracking bar. You can get what they call the "death wobble" with one of these and it will scare the doo doo out u butt :-[. Tracking bar is bolted to frame on Passenger side and uses a ball joint on driver side. Ball joint wears and steering gets loose. Check shocks and front brake pads as well. These are great trucks, but the do have there issues and the "death wobble" is a biggie. Tracking bar can be fixed with a Lukes Link, about $60 bucks if your a do-it-yourselfer.

Tranny is a weak link, but for *K it's worth the gamble, I think anyway. I have 2 95's and love em.

Good luck and welcome.
