Head Gasket Brand??

Everyone say to run a Marine Gasket or Cometic gasket. So let me ask this. I have been building hot rods for a long time and have always used Fel Pro with no issues... Cometic is made by Victor Rienz. And Fel Pro makes cummins gaskets that are identical to a " Factory Cummins" gasket. So what is the big deal with a Marine Gasket or Cometic? I know several local dodge boys with high HP motors that are running Fel Pro with with studs and have had zero issues. Just want some opinions on different gaskets. I had a Marine gasket in my truck for only 11 months and it gave out with studs so I am not to amazed with the old "must use a marine" gasket theory...

Thanks for your input...

I have wondered this as well... I have thought about using a Fel-Pro if this one ever goes. I figure Cummins knows what they are doing, but I am sure they get their gaskets sourced from someone, and Fel-Pro has been in the gasket business for a loooooong time so they should know a thing or two. Anybody ever run a Fel-Pro? Any issues?

Crime dog I got a complete gasket kit for Fel Pro for $120.00. I compared the Fel Pro gasket versus the Marine gasket that was in my truck and they look very, very similar.

Yeah, I just looked on Advance's website and their picture of the gasket looks identical to my gasket I put in. Very interesting.....

Crimedog you are right about where Cummins gets the gaskets from. Their are only a few companies that actually manufacture their own gaskets. The machine shop in my local area has done all the machine work for my hot rods. And even know they are not a true "Diesel Shop" performance shop. They know their way around machine work and gaskets ( In business locally for over 20 years in the same building). They spent over an hour in their shop comparing Cummins stock gasket, with a Marine gasket versus a Cometic Gasket. After some long comparison's I decided to go with Fel Pro. Complete Fel Pro gasket kit for $120.00. And you are also right about Fel Pro knowing a little about gaskets...
