hard starting

This is on my brothers 98 p-pump truck. He has a #10 fuel plate and 3k GSK. After the GSK the idle went up to 1100 so we adjusted the idle stop. we were able to bring it down to 750 but at level it would take a lot of pedal to get it started and then it would stall out when going between gears (p-n-d) . Now we have it set at 900 and it just seems to high. Before the GSK the truck would always start hard and sometimes stall out.

Any ideas? is this the case when the timing slips?

I seen this topic , many times when the GSK kit is put in , do a search on " install " and " GSK - idle " .
I do have a link , but have read this several times , and most all of the issue's seem to be just setting the spring height's just right , sometimes just slight changes & test driving .
I still think that you need a 800-850 RPM , and a little peddle to start .

i have read a lot of post about the problems after the GSK install and understand about the spring heights. they were installed at the same height per my vernier caliper. that and the fact that the truck started hard before the GSK install is why i am asking if this is normal. Just does not seem right, my 93 fires right off unlike his.

If your not going to tell that it was happening before , just mention the GSK install , how is anybody going to help with your question you did not ask ?
But an answer is still in my 1st post [ 800-850 rpm ] , now with the question , I would add check fuel pressure .

Now with the highlight , I notice , I read it more than once , and just didn't pick it out .
I installed one of those fuel pressure test ports , like in that post , haven't put in a gauge yet , just hook one up when there is a question , have to put in a dash gauge latter .
Let us know what the pressure is , when you get set up .
If it is low , reach with a pair of needle nose pliers and slowly pinch off the return hose , running from behind the injection pump along the head , if that brings up the pressure then replace OFV - overflow valve , if not the LP - lift pump .
