Hard brake line leak

Hi everybody.

I found a leaking hard metal brake line. It originates from the front of the ABS thing near the master cylinder. And ends right at the drivers side front wheel well. It was leaking from the fitting on master cylinder side only.

So I got in the zone, and they sent me away with a replacement line for $4. Both ends of the replacement line have the same size thread fitting at each end. I take my leaking line off, and the replacement line only fits the master cylinder side, the side that connects to the junction block by the front drivers wheel is smaller so the replacement line fitting is too big. I mic'd the threads, they are around .39" at the junction block and .42" up by the master cylinder/ABS.

Can I use a brake line adaptor to fit the smaller fitting?

Can I get a prebent line from the dealer?

Thanks for any help, I don't have a clue.

Personally I'd go with the dealer on an item like this and just pray the price isn't too outrageous.
For me brakes are just too important to mess around with trying to make the wrong part fit.

So what do mechanics do when you bring your truck to them? I know they don't go to the dealer for every single vehicle.

What I am getting at is, this line was replaced by a non-dealer item in the past by a duct tape mechanic. Why can't I get my hands on another non-dealer brake line?

There has to be a real professional mechanic out there that knows the secret, and I won't stop until I find this secret out myself.

I had a hard time finding fittings to repair my hard brake lines. All the big on-line sites had nothing. NAPA AutoZone couldn’t help either.

I found a company called Fedhill that sold what I needed for my ‘98 with 4 wheel ABS. All hard lines are 3/16” and the two nut sizes are 3/8-24 unf and 7/16-24 unf.

Here is a link to the site: http://www.fedhillusa.com/?page=home

Good luck.

Thank you.

Yes the line was 3/16" tubing.

NAPA had an adaptor for the master cylinder.

$8.80 and she's road worthy again.

Thanks.
