Gutted AFC and removed fuel plate!!

my buddy just removed his plate and gutted the lever out of the AFC now his truck after it gets hot idles at 1500 rpm? what do you think could be the problem? it dont seem to smoke as much as i thought it would. it could be because he has stock DV's and injectors right?
thanks,matt

removing all of that is a bad idea. instead, try learning to tune the afc and fuel plate. you may want to buy an aftermarket fuel plate too. try this, i liked this one alot: http://wiki.dieseltruckresource.com/wiki/Pump_Mod%27s

if smoke is what you're wanting, im sure injectors or DVs will help

Somethign weird going on there. Temperature shouldnt affect the idle speed. Gutting the AFC will make it smoke more off idle but it shouldnt change the idle speed. removing the cam plate will make it smoke more as youre accelerating.
He might want to run this by a diesel tech and see if its not something going on with the rack or the governor springs.
Anyhow, the idle screw is on the back of the pump. Set if for 800RPM hot and see what it does once it starts up cold.

As said removing the plate and lever shouldn't have changed your idle.
Only time I've seen the idle change from getting under the AFC cover was when a guy unknowingly lost a screw in it and ran it.
Idle was all over the place, pump had to be rebuilt.
