got my timing advanced today!

cost me 120$ canadian (pretty reasonable i think)...it was done correctly with the dial indicator and all that...believe it or not my timing was still at factory setting never slipped...i was expecting like 9 degrees or something from the threads ive been reading...nope good ol 12.5 if i remember...so they set it to 15.5.....

it has a nicer clatter to it at idle now...when i put her in park and rev it it revs CLEAN to 3400rpms like butter...no more snap crackle and pop.....havent had the chance to start it cold yet to see if my 20 sec shimmy/shake goes away on winter days...best way i can describe it is the engine revs cleanly...like some sort of resistance was lifted

Nice Im sure your EGT's went down, and mileage will come up some too if it is anything like my truck. I thought for sure my timing was probably bad retarded too, but it was also factory. I still cant rev pas about 3200-3300rpm's in park without it popping/missing/smoking. Im thinking that my lift pump must be a little weak, or maybe my pump is just a little weak? I dont know, but I wish I could get it stopped. Good to hear ya got her timed

SWEET!! You will love it then. Hopefully ill be going to a Goerend VB sometime soon. Go ahead, and put one of those #100 plates in there. You can drive it easy enough to no thurt anything, but you will have the power(and fun ) when you want it. Just play with it until you get it where it wont slip the converter, but still runs good, and drive it that way until you get a full tranny You have more patients than i do though i guess. lol So what are the plans after the tranny goes in?

It sure wakes these trucks up, doesn't it?! Had mine done this spring only went to 14* though, mine had slipped to 7*. The price is about the same as what i paid out here.

I just got a goerends with triple disk minus the shafts and it was $2850 plus shipping which came out to be around $3200. I dunno when the price increased but it has.

Any know a good place in Quebec that can bump the timing? If it still in the same ballpark ( 120bucks ) it's not worth for me to buy the timing tool kit..

Thanks,
Marc/

sorry marc can't think of anyone...but i don't think any shop will touch that sorta thing except a diesel performance place....i even tried getting it done at the local big truck center and they flat out refused due to legalities

so the best thing is ask ur friends if they know of a diesel shop....or look in the phone book till u come accross a diesel shop

the timing advance TOTALLY got rid of that early morning smoke smoking and shaking....its like butter now...

mr T.. We are poor here for Diesel performance shop.. There's no such shop in Quebec.. I also asked the local Cummins shop and i got a big NO.. So i think that i will have to buy me a kit and start a business..

Cheers,
Marc./
