got er did!
got er did!
whew what a sigh of relief, i finally got my KDP behind bars with no chance of perole.. lol it feels so good to have it done and so now i wont have to worry about that little bugger anymore. while i was in there i checked the other bolts that mount the gear case to the block and all is well i loctited all the bolts and so nothing is gonna move. oh and by the way,, that seal like everybody says can get the best of ya, what a PITA but i got it. heres a word to all those who haven't done there tab fix yet, it is ez to do and is the best insurance policy u can have on your engine so get er done. took me longer than i expected it to but i was doing about three things at once and the front cover seal was kicking my butt for a while. anyways thought that i would share the good news with everyone.
forgot to mention that i also staked the dowel pin hole before placing the tab over it all. oh yah, my truck was at 112,956 when i did the KDP fix, and the dowel pin was only out about 1/16 of an inch. cheers
P.S. i was thinking that now i have a diesel, i gottachangemysigninname.

Blowby,
Run a search on the KDP and you will find more than you can read in one sitting.
To give you a short answer, the KDP is a dowel alignment pin used to align the gear case cover to the block. On 94-98 engines, the hole in the gear case is a straight bore, allowing the dowel pin to slide out of its block mounting hole. If the dowel pin works its way out, it will fall between the cam and crank gear, most likely breaking the gear case cover. Now you have a huge oil leak and a problem that takes many hours and several dollars ($1500-$3000) to fix the problem.
I tabbed my KDP with the kit from TST, installed injectors, 191 dv's, and set the timing a few weeks ago in about 8-9 hours. The KDP fix alone should only take 2 hours or so, depending on your mechanical experience.
