Fuel shut off

My truck wont pull the fuel shut off actuator up anymore on startup I have to manually push it up and it will stay. Took it off and cleaned and lubed it still nothing. Is this the sign that I am due for a new one? Also anyone know the cheapest place to get a replacement online?

Probably in the starter contacts. See if you have 12V applied while the starter is turning her over.

If the problem was the contacts either the starter wouldn't turn over or would stick on.

Most likely the problem is the fuel shutoff relay on the firewall or a corroded blue fusible link at the driver's side battery positive.

More info and relay ordering here http://www.fostertruck.com/dodge/default.htm

I agree, look into the relay first since it is more likely to be the culprit and it is cheaper. Fostertruck is the place to get it. Take the time to read the site since it has some really good info.

Don't completely discount the relay comment. While that is not directly the cause, it is possible that it is indirectly the cause. When the starter contacts wear out, they tend to destroy the shutdown solenoid too. Fostertruck sells a real cheap diode that you can very easily install and will isolate the two systems.

Another thing that I should mention is that I replaced the entire wiring in the engine bay this past weekend when I did a 5spd swap on my truck (Had the whole wiring from a donor truck) The truck started to have the problems wednesday before the swap tore it apart replaced the main engine wiring harness then it started fine 4-5 times. Then the same problems again. Not sure what is causing it. I think I am going to replace the fuseable link and the relay seems as those are the cheapest and if that doesnt fix it I will suck it up and buy the fuel shut off.

Get a multitester and check things first. Continuity from the battery to the relay through the fusibile link, continuity from the relay to the solenoid, then you can test the relay and see if it still actuates. If all three are good, look to the wire from the starter and make sure that is putting out juice while cranking. It will be easier and quicker to check them out instead of just replacing them.
