fuel shut down solenoid

Ok guys my fuel shut down solenoid is not engaging or pulling the lever up. if i turn the key on and manualy pull it up it will stay up and i can drive it as soon as i shut it off i have to manualy pull it up again. It will shut down as soon as i turn it off. So is it the shut down solenoid or relay? I have 12v at the relay on 2 of the three prongs so im thinking solenoid..your thoughts, and were do i get a new one or is this part severiceable?

I believe in 98 they replaced the fuse link to the start solenoid with a fuse. It's pretty good sized, like 40 or so amps as well. The solenoids usually wear/last quite well; not so much with the relays, they eat the contacts from time to time. I would try jumping the relay, use stout wire because it does take quite a few amps to get it to jetk the start lever up. As for your 12 volts on the relay prongs.......one of the big ones should go to the hot side of the battery either through the fuse link or a fuse the other big one should go to the solenoid then you have one to ground and one to the key/start.

Larry B's has your good quality parts.

Here is Joe G's write up on the fuel system. Good write up. Probably junk in the solenoid or corroded fuse link.

shatten relay!

my relay shat! and the solonoid worked the same way.all i had was a solonoid from my fog lights and it made crappy contact so i bent all the prongs a little so it makes contact and prang it works.yes its only 40amp not 60 (and $3.99 vs $30)but it got me back on the road,it is very hard to get out of the truck and lift the hood to start the truck in the drive thru at timmies(nectar of the gods here in canada)there is some great videos on youtube showing what to do.good luck

While you are at it, put it in a remote location. I did and I pull it when leaving the truck for a while. Hard to start with no relay.
