fuel problem

I ran out of fuel the other morning twice going to work, got it restarted both times. My gauge said I had like an eighth of a tank left. I just figured my gauge was off. But when I got to the fuel station to fill up I only put in 26 gal. arent these 34-36 gal tanks. I would think That I would be able to run it down a bit lower, My 04 has a 34 gal tank and I have put 30 gal in it befor I ran out. Is this about right, or is there something wrong? I don't know what to think about it.
Thanks
Heath

I've been able to put 33 gallons in mine before running out, it was on E for a long time.
Either you were on a slope and the the fuel ran to the back, you have a hole in the tank module pickup hose or have a short bed with smaller tank.

I must have a hole in it then. Because I was on flat ground both times, just rolling no throttle. Thanks

Another thing I've heard of a couple times but have never seen is a tank that has partially collapsed due to a plugged vacuum release valve. Apparently some don't spring back to normal after this happens and need a little air compressor help.

ARAcummins,

They have it right--hoses.
Or you are sucking air from somewhere along the way. With the mileage you have those hoses or connections fall apart.
Pull the fuel filter to see how much fuel it has inside. Follow the line back, look for a bad hose all the way to the tank. Worse case, lift the bed/drop the tank, to check it all.

Good Luck,
Wayne
