Fuel Pressure
Fuel Pressure
I have a friend that has a 1997 5.9 Dodge Diesel tow truck. He says that his engine has a "screen pump" and a fuel pump. He has replaced the original fuel pump with an in-line electric pump. He has also installed an in-line filter. His engine when idling will start to die as if starving for fuel but you can bump accelerator and it catches back up. He is wanting to add a fuel pressure gauge but doesn't know where it should be added. Would appreciate any assistance. He doesn't have access to a computer and is missing out on being able to ask these questions from this type forum.
If you do a search, you will probably find pictures but here is a verbal description.
Take the banjo bolt at the inlet to the injection pump(rear outside top of pump) and drill and tap it for the fuel pressure gauge. I would recommend drilling down through the bolt as that will help you make sure to be centered. You can buy an entire kit from several sources, I would recommend dieselmanor which you can find online.
