My past trucks:

'97 ext. cab 4x4 5 spd #11 plate = 21mpg hwy & 18 city
'95 ext cab 2wd 5 spd #10 plate = 22mpg hwy & 18 city
'01 crew cab auto, injectors & box = 18 hwy & 14 city (stock got the same #'s)
'05 crew cad auto, stock = 18 hwy, 16 city

Current truck (last two years):
'97 ext. cab 4x4 auto:
stock = 20 hwy & 15 city
#10 plate, ddp3 injectors & tranny work = 21.5 hwy & 17 city

winter fuels I get 1 to 2 mpg less.
my last tank full I got 14.9 mpg (city driving w/winter fuel w/lots of idle time)

Somewhere there is an answer to my 14 mpg, still trying to figure where to start. Thanks for the input.

samahi72,

14 sound about right for a stock truck in city driving. Do you also get 14 on the highway?

Things that could be checked:
1)fuel filter(s). There is a screen in the fuel heater than needs to be cleaned every so often.
2) is torque converter locking when its supposed to? could also adjust bands in transmission.
3)Is timing correct? Advancing it 1° could result in a little mileage gain.
4)tire pressure up? I run 55lb in rear and 50lb in front.
5)air filter clean?
6)Lots of idle time will kill good mpg's

Hope this helps,

Tom

In my 97 4x4 auto I get about 15 in town and 17 on the highway, would get better if I didnt have to idle so much running in city traffic.

I get 20 mpg consistantly...mostly driving 60 mph or less.

I would say bad.

If my math is correct 500km = 311 miles and 132L = 35 gallons

that makes a whopping 9 mpg...

My 95 gets 20-21 on a regular basis on the hyway and has got 22 if I stay around 65 but if I jump up to 70-75 it will knock it down to around 18.

'97 extended cab, long box, 4wd, 12v, 5 speed. Montana to Delaware and back averaged 20 mpg running 75+ on interstates, as low as 55 on secondary roads. Around town 12 - 13 mpg, but that's measured just this winter with winter fuel, I generally gain 1 - 2 mpg with summer fuel. While fighting fuel system problems last summer mileage dropped to 12 - 13 on the highway, came back up when the wastegate actuator, fuel pump and catalytic converter were replaced, two leaks in the intake system were eliminated and the fuel plate was repositioned (it had come loose and was cocked sideways).

My '96 extended cab LB 4x4 averages between 18 and 19 mpg in combined driving. I've never gotten less than 15 regardless of how I drive. The truck has 200k, and a bed cap if that makes a difference.

This truck can also use wvo. The numbers I gave are for diesel only, but from the mileage others are quoting it doesn't appear that running wvo has hurt the effeciency of the engine.

Best was 23.7 hand calculated. Drove at 1800 RPM (65 MPH) with tires inflated to 80 PSI. Average 18 MPG at 75 MPH.
