front wheel bearings, do I need to replace?

I had to pull my disk brakes to replace a stud (thanks les shwab) and wondered if I needed to replace my wheel bearings while I got em out

they are $250+ bux each, how do I tell if they are bad?

I have "death wobble" on one set of tires that are tall fat and wide (33x12.5x16.5, I hate them)
but it drives like a dream on my pizza cutter wheels for winter

with the tire jacked up I can feel no play both vert and horizantal

with the hub out I get a very slight grating noise when I rotate it by hand, but I don't feel any hitches or 'spots' as I turn it.

just pickin your brains

If there's no vertical play then the bearings should be ok. That's usually how you check them (with the tire on).

If you do decide to replace them you should think about going to a manual hub.
