Front end rebuild
Front end rebuild
Allright soo im going to start ordering parts for my front end,my truck has got just a hair short of 300K,and i aint to sure of the p/o's upkeep, so im going to just replace all the bushings, tie rods, ball joints, etc, while im doing it..thought id ask you guys where the best place(s) is to order all these parts from....and any input would be welcome.
2nd the rock auto. Awesome store. They ship out the same day and the prices are unbelievable sometimes compared to the local shops. Especially for stuff like brakes and shocks. You just have to make sure of a couple of things: make sure all your items ship from the same warehouse, because you have to pay separate shipping from each one. They have an icon that tells you which items ship from the same place, and the shopping cart page tells you too. The other thing you have to be careful of is to triple check your part numbers! Since rockauto displays their parts in a long list which sometimes includes two or three vehicle models, I have made the mistake of buying two wheel drive parts for my 4wd. They don't try to hide anything, just make sure of your part number before you order. Otherwise you have to return parts.
Since you have a 2wd, you don't have to mess with replacing your front end parts every 30k. If you had a 4wd and used it, I would strongly recommend buying NAPA lifetime parts so that you only have to pay for them once.

I used TRW balljoints the first time around and they only lasted a year before one side got loose and allowed the tire to wear. Using moogs this time and theyre holding up so far.
I used lukes links on the pitman and tie rod ends. Be sure to check them periodically they can get loose inside and allow some flex and tire wear.
Id upgrade the trackbar if it needs replacing anyhow. I used thuren fab's 2nd gen and more recently their third gen type bar. Real good stuff.
I also have their control arms, but the OE ones are fine for stock use if you make sure the bushings are in good shape.
wheels with a shorter than stock backspace stick out and look nice, but they create extra loads on ball joints and wheel unit hubs. They also will allow for less room when turning, maybe sticking you with a 33" max tire size.

He has nice pics and good write ups. I did a few things like he explains. I changed my steering setup to the T as he shows and I also did the DT track bar, the steering stabilizer and did the mod to grease my front wheel bearings. Truck drives much better.
